“Greenpoint. The Transition” is a series of cultural and social activities realized in New York, USA by the Culture Shock Foundation, all targeted at Poles, those with Polish roots, and everyone interested in Polish culture and history. It arose primarily from the need to share interesting cultural and educational events with the Polish diaspora living in New York, to promote Polish artists among Americans—especially the ones living in or moving to Greenpoint—and to reveal Greenpoint’s potential as a space for creative, artistic, and neighborhood activities.

Program 2016

Greenpoint is changing in front of our eyes. The Polish character of this neighborhood is not as distinct as it was 10-20 years ago. Political transformation, EU access, visa lottery policy modification, and gentrification are the main reasons for this process. It is becoming more and more ethnically diverse, a phenomenon worth monitoring.

The project is co-financed from the funds granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the competition for the public task “Cooperation with Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad”, as well as co-financed by the Polish Senate’s patronage of Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad.
