“Greenpoint. The Transition” Block Festival

On the 20th of September on Leonard Street, between Norman Avenue & Meserole Avenue in Greenpoint, between 11 am and 5 pm, a block festival was held as a part of “Greenpoint. The Transition” project. This event was a great opportunity to celebrate Greenpoint, highlight its Polish identity, integrate old and new inhabitants, and have an unforgettable farewell to summer!

In program: concerts & dance performances (by Polish American Folk Dance Company, Opportunity Music Project Orchestra & Faculty, KOBO Music Studio), photographic exhibitions—among which there will be an unique selection of Wojciech Kubik’s archive and yet unpublished pictures of Greenpoint in the 80s, multiple art and educational workshops for kids & adults, board games & urban sports tournaments, book & clothing swaps, photo booth, contests with awards, Polish & local food, arts & crafts, and lots of other attractions!

“Greenpoint. The Transition” is a series of cultural and social activities realized in New York, USA by the Culture Shock Foundation between May and December, 2014. The project consists of educational workshops, concert series, movie screenings, and local recreational activities, all targeted at Poles, those with Polish roots, and everyone interested in Polish culture and history.

Project partners: Brooklyn Public Library, Opportunity Music Project, Videology, Focusing Lab, Pangea Network USA. Project media partners: Kurier Plus, Radio Rampa, Dobra Polska Szkoła, Greenpointpl.com, The Post Eagle.

The project is co-financed from the funds granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the competition for the public task “Cooperation with Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad.”
