skarpa_okladka ksiazkiThe first publication about Warsaw Scarp in 20 years − its history, cultural heritage, modern times and people associated with it. Book leads to lesser known places, inviting the reader to discover the charms of the Scarp.

Warsaw Scarp − a phenomenon on European scale, cliff overpassing the capital, green line crossing the city, capturing rich history dating back to ancient eras − served various functions over the centuries: it attracted settlers and defended the burgh, protected the wealthy, their residences and gardens, created the cultural heritage of the city.

The Scarp is also a place overgrown with legends and myths, here resided Wars and Sawa, Warsaw Mermaid, Basilisk, Golden Duck… Prince Kazimierz Poniatowski has placed here his house of pleasure (Elizeum in the park Na Książęcem) and Masonry − their lodge.

Finally, the Scarp is an urban public space common to all of us today. We live and work here, walk, cycle, invest and build. Too often, unfortunately, we do not identify the Scarp as a whole, do not know its history, we do not develop the potential hidden in here.
